Welcome to the world of the Berger Picard and the United Berger Picard Alliance. The Berger Picard (pronounced bare-ZHAY pee-CARR) is a rustic French herding dog whose ancestry dates back to 800 A.D., and who’s primary job was to tend and guard livestock. The breed was nearly decimated during WWI and WWII and has successfully been re-established in France, due to the hard work of many dedicated breeders. Within the past decade the Berger Picard has gained popularity in the United States and Canada, as well as many other European countries, because of their loving disposition, protectiveness, loyalty, expressiveness, whimsical nature, not to mention their unique look and carefree coat.
We at the United Berger Picard Alliance are focused on protecting, promoting and advancing the breed in the U.S. and Canada and hope you will come to learn a little bit more about this wonderful rare breed.
